lay-dees

the ladies came over on saturday night for a long-overdue girls' night ... i don't have a lot of time to write about it (damn job! argh!) but i will say that i had an awesome time. everyone was friendly and open and completly un-selfconscious about sharing details about everything; we talked about sex and men and childbirth and yeast infections and movies and music and our life stories. everyone was open and honest, even with the people that they'd never met in their entire lives.

i have to say that even though i do not have a lot of girl friends, that the select few that i do have are all very cool, funny, smart, and fun women. SO unlike the girls that i was exposed to growing up, they're without cattiness, or jealousy of one another. a fine, strong bunch of ladies!

rizpickles brought the booze, corona brought the cake, rocketbride brought giggles and cake and a big full baby-swollen belly (oh ... and short hair that she let me spike and faux-hawk ... wheee!), malvy brought weed and stories of her life back in the big U.S. of Ache, and sharon brought smiles and a voice that we'd never before had a chance to hear before (every time we'd hung out previously it'd been in loud, smoky clubs where conversation is limited to "do you need another beer?" and "i love this song, don't you???"). when all was said and done, i watched the sun come up over my plastic cup of red wine, and was filled with a sense of happiness and belonging. i haven't felt that in a long time.

so thank you ladies for visiting my Black Lodge (rocketbride called my apartment this in her entry about the night, and i really like it) and for making the night fun ... i hope to get to do it again really soon.

oh ... in other news, for no particular reason whatsoever, spike brought me some presents on sunday, one of which is one of the most amazing CDs i have ever heard in my life, The Rapture, Echoes ... it's a crazy how much this CD makes me smile, and wiggle, and groove. i listen to it on the way to work, and bop back and forth at streetlights. it's AMAZING, and i highly recommend it.
